Welcome to another Flowers Towers news fix.
After the intense workload of Thames View I took a bit of a break this summer but I'm back with a few fun bits to tell you more about.
New Work
I got to work with my best mate Zac Ella again on this animated and live action ad for Birdie's Brekkie Meal at McDonald's Australia this summer.
We worked together on the pitch developing some style frames to explore Birdies world and what it would look like. Once Zac had won the job I worked with him to develop all the designs for the “Birdified” scenes . It was so much fun coming up with characters and little Easter Eggs to discover in the ad. Zac was so open to exploring what else we could add to the spot, dropping in burping mailboxes and flying bricks.

I spoke for the second year running at Crash Festival, this time about the development of Thames View. It's the first time I've done a talk about the show so it was great to share a BTS look at how it came to life.

I've been adding fun, weird, inspirational Youtube clips to my Flowers Towers TV playlist for a number of years and thought I'd share some of my favourites here.
I have a LOT of McDonald's ads saved on my playlist but I had to share this, one of the first to feature Birdie the Early Bird. Birdie the Early Bird is the first identifiable female character used in McDonaldland commercials introduced in 1980 to promote the company's new breakfast items.
I don't have a lot of Birdie merch but this early 80s PVC decoration is pretty sweet.

I've been after one of these for a while and finally picked one up on Ebay. I love how everything is off model, to quote Zac Ella when he saw it "why has he got a roll neck on?".

Dusty Bin from 3.2.1 is one of my favourite things ever and I was over the moon to manage to pick up a Ruperta the Pumpkin mascot from the Spanish show it was based on. I know I've already done my Flowers Towers TV recommendation but you have to watch this
We're I've been and what I've seen
Travelling, researching and experiencing new places is one of my favourite things to do and really informs a lot of my work.
We've been travelling loads this summer but a couple of trips really stand out. First we were in Belfast and Lisburn discovering some of the amazing linen history there. We also went to the Ulster Folk Museum and got to see some of Bob Johnston's incredible willow work (as well as enjoying a pint in the 1920s pub on site). Second was a real once in a lifetime trip to experience the midnight sun in Andøya. I was there to do the House of Hulda artist residency, stay tuned for my piece inspired by the trip.
